Gmail IMAP – Solving the [Gmail] separation

Gmail buttonWhen you are using a Gmail account over IMAP in Outlook, you’ll also automatically get an [Gmail] or [Google Mail] folder containing all the “system folders” of Gmail itself.

To break yourself out of this additional subfolder and have all these folders listed directly under your mailbox in Outlook, you can set a root folder for your Gmail IMAP account. However, this has an effect on any Labels that you might use in Gmail. Luckily, there is a workaround for that as well.

AT&T account “Enter Network Password” prompt

News

If you have an e-mail account at AT&T such as domains ending with @att.net, @bellsouth.net or @sbcglobal.net, you might have been receiving repeated “Enter Network Password” prompts in Outlook (any version).

This could also happen in a mail client other than Outlook as it appears that there has been a recent change to their mail server configuration. To solve it, try the following;

  1. Login to AT&T Webmail to make sure your password is still valid.
    In some rare cases, logging on to your Webmail once already fixes the issue.
  2. Verify that you are using the latest AT&T server settings for your mail account in Outlook.
  3. Make sure you are using the primary e-mail address that you have registered in the AT&T / Yahoo Member Center as your account’s “User Name” in Outlook.
  4. If you still have issues now, use Yahoo’s mail server settings instead of AT&T’s.
    • POP3: pop.mail.yahoo.com
      • SSL: Enabled
      • Port: 465
    • SMTP: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
