        Obtaining the hotfixes

Since these are hotfixes and not regular updates, you won’t be offered this update via Microsoft Update but will have to request it. You can do this at the information page of each hotfix.

If you are not (seriously) effected by any of these issues, it is recommended to wait for the next Service Pack or regular Rollup Update which will most likely contain all these fixes as well.

        Instant Search query commands reference

Search Outlook buttonOutlook’s Search function integrates with the Windows Search Indexer of Windows. As this is an indexed search, it allows for faster search query results than with the traditional built-in Search function in Outlook.

With this integration, you also have access to a lot of special search commands and index fields to refine your search.

While many of the commands and fields can also be found and selected directly within Outlook, not all of them are exposed. Additionally, you’ll have to type these commands or field names manually when searching for Outlook content via the Windows Search box outside of Outlook.

This is a reference guide to the available search operators and search fields and how to use them.

Deploy Outlook mail profile settings via GPO or script

When an end-user starts Outlook for the first time in a managed environment, he or she usually expects that Outlook is fully configured already and simply opens to the Inbox. Being a good administrator, you obviously want to create this experience for your users as well.

AutoDiscover in Exchange 2007 and later together with Auto Account Setup (or AutoConfigure) in Outlook 2007 and later alleviates some of this pain already by presenting the user with dialogs for which they only have to click Next and Finish or prompt them to supply commonly known information such as their email address and password. Outlook then figures out the technical configuration itself and has the user quickly up and running.

As this still requires end-user interaction, which could lead to confusion or errors, you can take this a step further by deploying Outlook mail profile settings. The Office installation offers various options for this.
