New and Changed in Outlook 2016

Outlook 2016 buttonUpgrading to Outlook 2016 from Outlook 2013 is easy and you’d probably need very little time to adjust yourself to it. In fact, if it wasn’t for the new default “colorful” theme, you’d hardly notice the upgrade to Outlook 2016 at first sight.

This is actually part of the Office 365 strategy where major new features are also introduced during the main lifetime of the current version, as we saw with Office 2013. In the old strategy, these features were held back for the new version. Office 2016 will get the same treatment so future updates can introduce new features as well.

Until then, there are still plenty of new features in Outlook 2016 to use and discover.

Cumulative Update 10 for Exchange 2013 is now available for direct download.

This Cumulative Update contains 23 new fixes and all previously released fixes and security updates for Exchange 2013. This is also the minimum version of Exchange 2013 which supports coexistence with Exchange 2016.

Notable fixes are:

  • KB3093866 The number of search results can’t be more than 250 when you search email messages in Exchange Server 2013
  • KB3078404 Can’t access a shared mailbox after you migrate from Exchange Server 2010 to Exchange Server 2013
  • KB3009631 Advanced Find against the Sent Items folder in Outlook returns no result in Exchange Server 2013

Exchange 2010 SP3 Rollup 11

Update Rollup 11 for Exchange 2010 Service Pack 3 is now available for direct download.

This Rollup Update contains 1 new fix, and all previously released fixes and security updates for Exchange 2010 SP3. This is also the minimum version of Exchange 2010 which supports coexistence with Exchange 2016.

  • KB3092576 Multiple events are logged and Information Store service crashes randomly in an Exchange Server 2010 environment

Note that mainstream support for Exchange 2010 has ended. This means that it will basically only get security and DST updates until mainstream support ends as well.

Outlook 2013 Update for September 2015

News

A Rollup Update has been released for Outlook 2013. This is a non-security update which contains 19 documented improvements and fixes.

Most notable new changes and fixes are:

  • You get an “Cannot send this item. The operation failed.” error when you try to forward an instance of a recurring meeting that has an attachment.
  • Assume that you select the Related button in the Editing section on the ribbon in Outlook 2013. When you select the “Messages in this Conversation” option in an email message, Outlook 2013 crashes.
  • Assume that you convert an email message (.msg) file from the RTF format to the HTML format and edit the email message in Outlook 2013. After you send the email message, the edits of the email message are lost.

Outlook 2010 Update for September 2015

A Rollup Update has been released for Outlook 2010. This is a non-security update which contains 2 documented improvements and fixes.

  • Improves user experience by adding a warning when you try to change Default or Anonymous permissions.
  • Fixes an issue for when you try to change the members of a distribution list when you have multiple Exchange profiles set. This resulted in the following error message:
    The public group cannot be displayed. The operation failed.

Exchange 2013 Security Update for September 2015

News

A security update has been released for Exchange 2013 to solve a discovered vulnerability which is currently not being publicly used to attack OWA users.

The exploitation risk for the vulnerability has been categorized as “Important”. The vulnerability requires the user to click on a link to a specially crafted website and could result in information disclosure via spoofing.
