Outlook 2013 Update for December 2013

News

An update has been released for Outlook 2013 and can be downloaded and installed manually.

It is not yet being offered via Microsoft Update and the KB article doesn’t state which fixes it includes.

Update:
Even though the the KB article doesn’t state what is fixed, the KB article of the November update confirms that it indeed fixes the Autodiscover connectivity issues with Exchange 2007.

The update is dated at December 13, so clearly it missed the Path Tuesday deadline of this month (December 10).

My assumption is that it (also) includes a fix for the the connectivity issues with Exchange 2007 which got introduced with the November Security update (KB2837618). (Un)fortunately, I did not exhibit this problem with my Exchange 2007 environment, so I can’t confirm this. If anybody can, please contact me.

If you experienced IMAP connectivity issues after applying the November update, please see:

Security and Rollup Updates for Exchange 2007, Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2013 (MS13-105)

News

Due to the MS13-105 security bulletin, all currently supported versions of Exchange got a Security Update or a Rollup Update. The only change in each update is the inclusion of the security updates identified in MS13-105.

This security update resolves three publicly disclosed vulnerabilities and one privately reported vulnerability in Microsoft Exchange Server. The most severe of these vulnerabilities exist in the WebReady Document Viewing and Data Loss Prevention features of Microsoft Exchange Server.

These vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution in the security context of the LocalService account if an attacker sends an email message containing a specially crafted file to a user on an affected Exchange server. The LocalService account has minimum privileges on the local system and presents anonymous credentials on the network.
