Word Hotfixes for double attachment file extension

Hotfixes for Word 2007 and Word 2010 have been released which takes care of an Outlook issue where the file extension of attachments which are dragged & dropped into a new message to duplicate.

This issue had been introduced in Hotfix KB2687259 for Word 2007 and KB2687296 for Word 2010 and was also included in Security Update KB2687315 for Word 2007 and KB2553488 for Word.

A new Hotfix for both versions of Word have been released which takes care of this issue.

Outlook 2010 Hotfixes for October 2012

2 Hotfixes have been released for Outlook 2010 fixing a total of 28 issues.


Hotfix KB2687608 for Outlook 2010
This hotfix contains 26 fixes for specific issues. Most notable fixes are;

  • Assume that you synchronize a mailbox that has a large file size or a folder in Outlook 2010 with Microsoft Exchange Server. Additionally, assume that you restart Outlook before the synchronization process is complete. When you restart the synchronization process, the process starts again from the beginning.
  • After you add many folders to the Favorites list in Outlook 2010, some folders are not displayed in the list. Then, after you restart Outlook, some folders are still not displayed.
  • When Outlook 2010 and Microsoft Lync 2010 are running at the same time, Outlook 2010 crashes.
  • When you reconfigure an Outlook 2010 profile to use a different mailbox, incoming email messages are moved to the Deleted Items folder.

Hotfix KB2687620 for Outlook 2010
This hotfix solves 2 issue regarding meeting requests.

  • When you close an email message and then open a meeting request in Outlook 2010, Outlook 2010 crashes.
  • When you add a meeting room to a meeting request and then add a contact group whose display name contains Japanese characters as well, the meeting room is not displayed or reserved when sending the meeting request.

Outlook 2007 Hotfix for October 2012

Hotfix KB2687540 for Outlook 2007
This hotfix contains 9 fixes for specific issues. Most notable fixes are:

  • When you try to rename a subfolder in a shared mailbox in Outlook 2007 in cached mode, the folder name reverts to its original name when you restart Outlook.
  • Assume that you have a large size mailbox or a folder in Outlook 2007. You sync the mailbox or the folder, and then restart Outlook before the sync is completed. When you restart the sync later, the process starts from 0. 
  • If the first day of the week is set to Monday in the calendar of Outlook 2007, the first week of the year is skipped in the week numbering for the year 2013.

Creating a new appointment based on an existing one

New Appointment buttonUnlike the Contacts module, which has a feature to create a new contact from the same company, the Calendar module doesn’t hold a feature to directly create a new appointment based on the current one.

When there is no direct recurrence pattern for your appointment, having such an option for appointments can be useful so you can use it as a template.

Luckily, with some VBA, it is fairly easy to create a new appointment based on an existing one similar to that of creating a new contact from the same company.

This guide provides you with that VBA code and not only explains how to implement it but also explains how to configure which appointment properties should be copied to the new appointment.

Office 2013 and Exchange 2013 now available on TechNet and MSDN

Earlier than expected, Microsoft has released the RTM versions of the Office family to MSDN and TechNet subscribers.

The Office 2013 family includes the following products:

  • Office 2013
  • Exchange 2013
  • Visio 2013
  • Project 2013
  • SharePoint Server 2013
  • Office Web Apps 2013
  • Lync Server 2013

Currently only the English versions are available for download but expect the localized versions to become available soon as well.

The Office 2013 RT edition which ships with Windows RT tablets such as the Microsoft Surface tablet has also been published as an update to Microsoft Update. So for the early birds who will get their Surface tablet this Friday, you can immediately update the included Office 2013 Customer Preview to the released version.

Note that the Office version which ships with Windows RT/Surface tablet does not contain Outlook but only Word, Excel and PowerPoint. To sync your Outlook data with a Windows RT tablet see: Outlook, Windows RT and the Surface tablet


Office 2013 and Exchange 2013 reach RTM status

The testing phase of all the Office 2013 products have ended and reached the RTM status, which is the version that is ready to ship to customers. This also includes the server family of the Office products such as Exchange, SharePoint and Lync.

Availability
General availability is planned for the first quarter of 2013 (most likely the last week of January or the first week of February). When you purchase Office 2010 on or after October 19, you’ll receive Office 2013 for free when it becomes available.

When you bought a Windows RT device such a Microsoft Surface, which will become available on October 26, it will still include a preview version of Office 2013.

MSDN and TechNet subscribers as well as Volume Licensing customers with Software Assurance will be able to download the Office 2013 applications as well as the server products by mid-November.

Office 365 subscribers will see their server-side services being updated between November and February.
